Making Love Last
God showed me a revelation last week about relationships. It happened during an ordinary trip to work on the train.
I walked the isles of the train, looking for an open seat.
I chose one at the end of the compartment
Which happened to face the majority of the other passengers.
There was a lady directly in front of me, not more than 3 feet.
I looked in her direction to offer a courtesy smile or a "good morning"
Yet she continued to look out the window and never in my direction.
There were many faces on the train
No more than usual.
Some chose to talk with others
While some slept
And others sat quietly.
As I sat thinking of the tasks ahead of me for the day
I looked about 4 seats in front of me and saw a face.
It was of a muslim lady
Robed in her customary attire.
I offered a smile
Which she returned.
The train continued its journey
And upon our arrival
I rose and entered the isle to depart.
Directly in front of me was the muslim lady.
As we slowly walked towards the train's doors
I saw several passengers still in their seats.
I thought that I would allow them to enter the isle
In front of me as a courtesy.
Then I noticed the muslim lady was extending this courtesy herself
Along with a small smile.
The passengers thanked her to which she replied "your welcome."
I thought of the differences we must have
In our beliefs and what her day would be.
Was she going to work
Or maybe to stores to shop
Or maybe she was going home.
As we stepped off the train onto the platform
The sea of passengers began to fill the corridors.
Everyone on their way to their own personal destinations
For their own private purposes.
I looked and saw the muslim lady
Disappearing into the crowds
Completely.
What once was a personal interaction
Was now lost in the sea of people
And in the sea of things around us.
THIS IS WHAT GOD SHOWED ME THROUGH THIS SEEMINGLY MEANINGLESS ENCOUNTER....
WE HAVE TO PURPOSELY DO THINGS TO MAINTAIN OUR CLOSENESS
OTHERWISE WHAT WE ONCE HAD WILL NO LONGER EXIST.
THINGS IN OUR LIVES CAN CREATE DISTANCE
AND IF WE DON'T DO WHAT IT TAKES TO MAINTAIN OUR CLOSENESS,
JUST LIKE THE LADY IN THE CROWD,
WE WILL LOSE THE INTIMACY AND CONNECTION THAT WE HAVE
INTO THE SEA OF THINGS AROUND US.
THIS SEA MAY BE THE PROBLEMS IN OUR FAMILY OR RELATIONSHIPS,
THE TASKS ON OUR JOBS, OUR MINISTRY, OUR HOMES, OUR LIVES.
THE SEA CAN BRING THINGS THAT DISTRACT US AND PULL US AWAY FROM BEING WITH EACH OTHER, REALLY BEING WITH EACH...NOT JUST SPENDING TIME
BUT FOCUSING ON WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE US ONE...
FOCUSING ON BUILDING A TRUST AND FOUNDATION THAT WITHSTANDS THE TEST AND PROBLEMS.
CONQUER THE SEAS AND NEVER LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON YOUR ANGER (EPHESIANS 4:26).
